The Truth About Turf Rebates In Utah County

Short version: there is no rebate for artificial turf anywhere in Utah County. Not from the state, not from the water district. This page shows what those programs really pay for. It also shows why some companies say otherwise, and why turf still comes out ahead without a check.

No, artificial turf is not rebated in Utah County

Two programs cover the seven cities in this county. Both leave artificial turf out.

  1. The statewide Landscape Incentive Program. Run by the Utah Division of Water Resources, through utahwatersavers.com. Its own definition of water-efficient landscaping does not include artificial turf.

  2. The Central Utah Water Conservancy District. This is the district that serves Utah County. So it is the one that matters here. That means Lehi, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Orem, and Provo. Its program language says artificial turf will not be incentivized.

That is the whole answer. One district covers all seven cities. There is no city-by-city exception to go hunting for.

Why turf ads in these cities keep hinting at a rebate that does not exist

Because some companies that advertise in these cities are careless. Or they are hoping you do not check.

We are not going to name them. We are also not going to pretend the confusion is your fault. These programs are genuinely confusing. They are lawn replacement programs and they pay real money. Skim one and it looks like tearing out your lawn qualifies, no matter what you put down.

It does not. What gets rebated is what you replace the lawn with.

What the programs actually pay for

They pay you to turn lawn into a living, water-wise planting. That is the point of the program. Less water goes onto grass, and more of it stays in the system.

A qualifying project usually has to hit a minimum for living plant coverage. Rock-only yards do not qualify either, for the same reason turf does not. Neither one is a plant.

So here is the honest trade-off. If you take the rebate, you are being paid to plant a yard and then keep it alive. Those plants still get watered. They still get weeded. Some of them still die and get replaced.

That is a fair choice, and for some yards it is the better one. We install turf. We are not going to pretend turf is the right answer for every yard in the county.

If a plant conversion is the right fit for your yard, we will tell you so.

The honest math

So why would you still choose turf

Because a rebate is a check that arrives once, and a lawn is a bill that arrives forever.

Here is the comparison worth running. Not with our numbers. With yours.

A check that arrives onceA bill that arrives every yearTime

What a Utah lawn costs you every year

Water.
Pull your summer bills. The peak months are the number that matters. In most Utah County homes, the yard is why the summer bill looks so different from the winter one.
Mowing.
It is either a service you pay every week from April to October, or the Saturdays you spend doing it yourself. Both are real costs. One is just easier to see on a bill.
The spring re-seed.
Seed, fertilizer, and the weeks in April and May when the yard is patchy. Half of it is roped off from the kids.
Sprinkler repairs and winterization.
Blowing the lines out every fall. Fixing the heads the mower found. Replacing the valve that failed. Every year.
The August problem.
The month you water the most is also the month the lawn looks the worst. That is the part that wears people down more than the money.

What turf costs you every year after it is installed

  • No watering the lawn area.
  • No mowing.
  • No re-seeding.
  • No sprinkler system to maintain for the turf area.
  • Rinse it and brush it now and then. Pick up after the dog the same as on grass.

The rebate is a one-time payment. The lawn costs come back every year and they do not stop. We warranty the turf as a product for 15 years, with the tiers printed. Over that span, the yearly side is usually the bigger number.

We are not going to put a dollar figure on that for you. It depends on your yard size, your provider, and how you have been maintaining it.

Anyone who quotes you a yearly saving without looking at your bill is guessing. Bring your bill to the consultation. We will run the comparison on your own numbers. It is an estimate, not a promise.

What we will tell you at the consultation

The free on-site consultation gives you more than a quote. You get:

  • A plain answer on your district. Exactly what the Central Utah Water Conservancy District program covers at your address, and what it does not. In writing, so you are not reading program pages at eleven at night.

  • Your own annual lawn cost, estimated from your own bill and your own yard, not from an average.

  • A measured written scope, with the turf spec, the base build, and the warranty terms.

  • An honest read on whether turf is right for your yard. Sometimes the answer is a plant conversion, sometimes it is a mix, sometimes it is turf. We will say which.

Rebate questions, answered honestly

No. The statewide Landscape Incentive Program leaves artificial turf out of its definition of water-efficient landscaping. The Central Utah Water Conservancy District serves all seven cities in this county. It states that artificial turf will not be incentivized. There is no city-level exception here. One district covers the whole county.
